Lee joins SkyObs after spending 20 years in media, advertising and marketing. He has broad management experience from all sides of the equation having worked as a Research Manager for Katz Communications, the largest advertising representation firm for television and radio stations in the U.S., Director of Programming for the New England stations in the Viacom/CBS Television Stations Group, EVP/Director of Operations for Pro Media, Inc., a Boston-based advertising agency that included Liberty Mutual Insurance and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MA among its clients, and most recently as Director of Operations for Entercom New England, a cluster of eight radio stations that included the WEEI Sports Radio Network, Boston Celtics Radio Network and the Red Sox Radio Network.

In his free time, Lee enjoys friends and family, regular exercise, playing hockey, spoiling the six family dogs, feeding his political junkie habit and rooting for his favorite sports teams.

Throughout his career, Lee has embraced the challenge of managing through change. Whether it was uncertain ownership on the television side, technological innovation as multiple stations could be operated from a single location, regulatory change from the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and the FCC’s indecency push during the Bush Administration, the clear trend of declining viewers/listeners brought about by a world of 500 channels, ipods, satellite radio and the web, the onset of new audience measurement methodologies and even the current economic crisis, Lee has recognized the opportunity that comes with a paradigm shift.

“The reality of Global Climate Change represents the greatest managerial challenge of our time.  The industrialized world needs new tools, new processes and a new attitude. I can’t wait to help SkyObs’ clients chart their way in the Green new world.”

SkyObs representatives participated in this year’s West Coast Green Academic Forum and helped create the Council for Innovation in Sustainability Education (CISE), working group.  The CISE will meet regularly to address issues such as the clarification of what sustainability education really means, sustainability degrees and certificate accreditation, open source sustainability curriculum, and sustainability curriculum research and grant funding.

If you would like to receive more information about CISE or how to get involved, please send us an email at Information@skyobs.com.

SkyObs has joined the ENERGY STAR Change the World Campaign and set a goal to prevent 10,396,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Every action taken is a step in the right direction.

Dr. Richard Bruce, PhD is an assistant professor of construction management at Missouri State University.  Dr. Bruce recently contacted SkyObs CEO, Joe DellaTorre, and asked that he take part in a new University study on the impact of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design professional accreditation program.  Mr. DellaTorre shared his insights on the LEED program and its value to individual pracitioners with Dr. Bruce.

Results from the study are expected to be released during the first week of December, at which time SkyObs will post the findings on our website for our clients and partners.

In a short space of time phrases such as climate change, carbon footprint, energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy & sustainability have become 21st Century buzz words. The world around us is taking a serious look at how our environment is changing, and what we as individuals, and businesses, must do to become greener. The inaugural GREEN TELECOM & IT SUMMIT will take place this fall in San Francisco, bringing together top executives with a desire to protect the environment while retaining a competitive edge. The summit will highlight the ethical and commercial benefits of going green.

Global warming or climate change news presents itself to us in some form almost daily. Businesses have an urgent need to reduce carbon emissions. This need is driven by cost, regulatory threat, stakeholder pressure and the desire to enhance the business’ reputation with customers. The telecoms industry has already produced innovative solutions in a drive to contribute to environmental sustainability. Technical developments are making base stations more efficient, reducing the effect on the environment, and reducing costs. Alternative energy sources are being investigated, with solar, wind power and biofuels used to extend mobile coverage in rural areas. Handset manufacturers are introducing recyclable material into their products, and there is a focus on customer education for the recycling of mobiles and batteries

KEY CONSIDERATIONS AT THE GREEN TELECOM & IT SUMMIT:

  • The impact of climate change - what are the challenges we are facing in society as a whole and how can the telecoms industry work to reduce the impact?
  • Cost-efficiencies as a key driver for going green
  • Minimizing power consumption in networks & data centers
  • Exploiting new market opportunities with lower carbon-intensity products
  • Making the most of renewable energy – exploring the alternatives
  • What is the business case for going green? Determining commercial viability
  • Innovative solutions for green telecoms
  • Improving the reliability of green solutions with technical enhancements
  • Regulatory approaches – carrot or stick?
  • Analyzing the mobile phone lifecycle and the options for recycling
  • Educating the consumer to the benefits of greener telecoms
